Rationale for Score:
This portfolio demonstrates an excellent understanding of drawing issues, including line, value, mark-making, and form in space. While most of the images are figurative, a range of approaches to compositional and spatial organization is clearly evident. Some images are finely rendered (images 1 and 2), while others are notable for their gestural fluidity (images 4 and 12). Considerable experimentation and risk-taking are apparent in these richly layered paintings, and the juxtaposition of multiple styles within several of the pieces reflects conceptual complexity and sophisticated visual thinking. Color is handled with confidence and expressive energy.
